Before coming to train in Wing Chun, it is common for people to have questions about what is unique to the art. I feel that there are many instructors who have done a fine job of writing in detail about acquiring this incredible skill. Like my instructor, I find that there is more value in demonstration than in explanation. What follows is a few answers to some common questions.

According to Sifu David Peterson`s great teacher, the late Sifu Wong Shun Leung, ” All footwork in the system is a derivative of the , Yi Ji Kim Yeung Ma or goat gripping stance.” Wong states that all footwork including kicking is developed when practicing this particular stance. By maintaining this stance, one creates one of the strongest structures, the triangle. Whether advancing or retreating by utilizing this stance one is easily able to direct an attack to the ground or offensively use the ground as support for Wing Chun’s unique attacks.
